The 9 Best Anime Movies For Beginners, From 'Spirited Away' to 'Belle'

Are you new to the world of anime, thinking of giving it a chance, but you don't know where to start? Below is a list of 13 anime movies that are equally great to get your start in the world of Japanese animation. The goal of this list is to shine some light on a wide variety of genres and tones that will also give you a good base for how to choose what kind of anime you want to explore more of in the future. If you watch all of these movies and maybe check out some other works by these directors then you will have a pretty solid grasp on the world of anime movies. Spirited Away (2001) During their move to the countryside, Chihiro (Rumi Hiiragi) and her parents, Akio (Takashi Naito) and Yuko (Yasuko Sawaguchi) get lost and find themselves at an abandoned amusement park. As the family makes their way through the park, they find enough food for a feast and since no one is around, the parents decide to dig in against Chirio's protests. While eating the food both of her parents tu

When Will 'Thor: Love and Thunder' be Available on Disney+?

Thor: Love and Thunder brought us the highly-anticipated return of the 'strongest Avenger.' Taika Waititi's second film about the God of Thunder not only sees the return of Chris Hemsworth as Thor Odinson but also the inclusion of several new (and semi-new) characters such as Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher and Natalie Portman as the Mighty Thor aka Thor's ex-girlfriend Jane Foster. Considering that Thor: Love and Thunder is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it will have a good run in the theater. However, almost every other film in this long-running franchise is available to stream on Disney+ (The Incredible Hulk and the Spider-Man trilogy are currently unavailable on Disney+), so some fans may forego a trip to the movie theater and instead watch it from the comfort of their own home. So, here's when you can stream Thor: Love and Thunder. Keep in mind these dates are estimates and not definitive. When is Thor: Love and Thunder Streaming on Disney

Chad Stahelski Talks Producing 'Day Shift’ and Why He Loves Jamie Foxx’s Fight with the Elderly Vampire

While you know Chad Stahelski’s name as the director of the John Wick movies, he just added a new title to his IMDb resume: producer. He got this for his work on director J.J. Perry’s vampire action movie, Day Shift, which is now streaming on Netflix. In the movie, Jamie Foxx plays a hard-working dad that works as a pool cleaner. But what his family doesn’t know is the pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income—hunting and killing vampires. Dave Franco plays an employee at the vampire hunter union, which pays hunters for killing vampires and selling their fangs. When the two are teamed up against their wishes, they must make the best of a bad situation, which leads to a lot of funny moments where each actor gets to shine. Shortly after seeing the movie I got to speak with Stahelski. During the interview, he talked about how he got involved in the project, why he loved the opening fight scene between Foxx and the elderly vampire, how they pulled off the awesome sequence

Peter Jackson's 'The Lord of the Rings' Review: A Fantasy Epic Without Compare

“My friends, you bow to no one.” One of the final and most memorable lines from The Lord of the Rings trilogy is given to the heroes of the fantasy adventure films as a small recognition of the great sacrifices they have made. However, it could just as well be referring to the works themselves in how they tower above all else that came before and anything else that has come since. Peter Jackson’s three films, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King, remain a titanic achievement in cinematic storytelling. In setting out to adapt J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels, widely considered to be a foundational work that helped to shape the modern fantasy genre, the filmmaker had his work more than cut out for him. So much could have gone wrong as the source material was gargantuan in scope and multilayered in theme. It remains a rich text whose aspirations and ideas ought never to be sanded down in the process of adaptation. Not only was the heart of the story captured acro

Stephen Lang-Led Horror Movie 'Old Man' Sets Fall Release Date

A patchwork of artists with their hands in horror have come together on a film titled Old Man. This brand-new horror thriller, starring Don't Breathe's Stephen Lang, has been acquired by AMC's RLJE Films, and is set to premiere in October, just in time for Halloween. From Tim Burton's return to his classic aesthetics in Netflix's upcoming series Wednesday, to Laurie Strode's (Jamie Lee Curtis) final stand in Halloween Ends, horror fans are feasting well in 2022. Now, RLJE Films is bringing back a genre favorite, Lang, who portrayed the misguided blind veteran in 2016's Don't Breathe. Lang is tapped to portray the titular "old man" in Lucky McKee's (May) return to the director's chair, Old Man. The movie is said to follow a hiker who finds himself off the beaten path. Lost, the hiker stumbles onto the isolated property of an erratic old man. When the two strike up a conversation the man reveals a terrifying secret, and the hiker finds h

John Stamos on Voicing Iron Man in 'Marvel's Spidey and His Amazing Friends,' 'Big Shot' Season 2, and More

From executive producer Harrison Wilcox and director Chris Moreno (based on the characters created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko), the children's animated series Marvel's Spidey and His Amazing Friends is gearing up to premiere its second season on Disney Junior. The show features some of our favorite webslinging heroes — Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Benjamin Valic), of course, as well as Miles Morales/Spin (Jakari Fraser), Gwen Stacy/Ghost-Spider (Lily Sanfelippo), Peter's Aunt May (Melanie Minichino), Miles' parents Rio and Jeff Morales (Gabrielle Ruiz and Eugene Byrd), and Gwen's mom Helen Stacy (Kari Wahlgren). Many of Spidey's allies have already popped up on the series, from Ms. Marvel (Sandra Saad) to Black Panther (Tru Valentino) and even the Hulk (Armen Taylor) — but Season 2 sees the debut of none other than Iron Man himself, Tony Stark, voiced by John Stamos. Ahead of the premiere of Marvel's Spidey and his Amazing Friends Season 2, Collider had the op

‘LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation’ Delivers Heartfelt Hijinks and Tantalizing Tropes

Since the fateful premiere of The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, the Sequel trilogy has mostly been in the rearview mirror as Lucasfilm revisits the eras contained within the Prequel and Original trilogies on Disney+. However, the beloved cast of characters from the sequels has been living the high life in the LEGO films, which have now amounted to a Sequel trilogy of their own. Just in time for hot summer days, LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation joins the ranks of The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special and LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales, delivering a tale filled with humor, high-flying hijinks, heists, fake dating, and first kisses, that is wrapped in a surprisingly heartfelt story. With the Holiday Special, Rey went on a time-traveling adventure that taught her about the importance of human connection, while Poe learned what it meant to be a hero as he discovered Terrifying Tales. In Summer Vacation, Finn gets brought to the forefront of the story as three Force Ghosts offer him guidance about

'Emergency Declaration' Goes From Gripping to Exhausting with a Bloated Runtime

When it comes to disasters, I think we can all agree one of the most harrowing nightmares is an attack on a plane. With nowhere to run and trapped in a small enclosed space with upwards of a hundred people, it is a breeding ground for terror and panic. This is the setting the writer/director Han Jae-rim sets his disaster film Emergency Declaration in. For about 75% of its run, the film is a gripping examination of human nature when caught in the jaws of fight or flight. A biochemical attack on a plane turns the passengers against each other as the officials on the ground rush to desperately find a solution for the victims. The other quarter of the film is dedicated to melodrama, shots that drag on far too long, and a plethora of moments that are unintentionally comedic, especially in the final moments of the film when the story should land the hardest. https://podcast.ausha.co/love-destiny-the-movie2-hd/love-destiny-the-movie2-hd https://podcast.ausha.co/love-destiny-the-movie2-hd/lov

'Black Bird' Review: An Exceptional Cast Makes This True Crime Drama Soar

In the sea of true-crime series that have hit streaming services so far in 2022, Black Bird is a different kind of animal. And boy, can this bird fly. Taron Egerton turns in a powerhouse performance as Jimmy Keene, the drug-dealing son of a cop (Ray Liotta, in one of his final roles). In exchange for release from his 10-year prison sentence, Keene takes a deal from the FBI to infiltrate a maximum-security prison for mentally unstable inmates in order to help the feds nail down a suspected serial killer. But, before he can be released, Keene has to gain the trust of said serial killer, Larry Hall (a creepier than ever Paul Walter Hauser), and find out the location of the bodies of suspected victims. It's the top-notch performances that really make this series soar above the others in the true crime genre. Egerton is on point from minute one as the cocky, you'll-never-catch-me-and-make-it-stick Keene. A smooth talker who has never met a stranger, Keene is smug and smirky up unti

'A League of Their Own' Review: This New Series Knocks It Out of the Park

"There's no crying in baseball." That's the famed line Tom Hanks as Jimmy Dugan memorably shouts in Penny Marshall's original 1992 movie A League of Their Own. A dramedy about female empowerment and sisterhood in the 1940s, this fictionalized account of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) proves its classic status time and time again. Even still, Prime Video's latest reimagining — a series of the same name created by Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham — sets out to widen the cherished classic's original storytelling lens, offering new stories of queerness and the Black experience that the original movie didn't have space to tackle. In doing so, A League of Their Own delivers a profound homerun. Whereas the original film centers the relationship between sisters Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis) and Kit Hinson (Lori Petty), the new A League of Their Own series introduces an entirely new ensemble. At its heart, there's Carson (Jacobson)
